A study originating from the National University of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) aims to learn more about the non-profit, non-governmental organisational climate action within the Southeast Asian region.

Despite the great climate potential of NPOs in the fight against climate change, there is significantly less information and data pertaining to this sector. This is especially so in the SEA region and thus gives rise to potential areas of research in Southeast Asia such as systematically documenting the progress and implementation of non-profit and voluntary climate action in Southeast Asia, in which this study endeavours to accomplish. To enhance the granularity of the study, primary data such as their ongoing programmes and projects will be collected from each organisation and assessed. The study will also adopt various empirical research from existing literature. The study will also delve deeper towards the choices of climate action of each organisation, their geographic location, and the current delivery of their projects to assess their implementation and substantive progress in order to survey their climate action targets and accurately assess their performance. On a larger scale, this study will fill in the knowledge gaps of the environmental non-profit and voluntary sector in the global south and shed light on how this sector is paramount to the global response towards climate.

This repository was created to systematically document the existing NPOs in Southeast Asia, with a focus on the ASEAN member countries -- Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, and Myanmar. It aims to deliver and inform of the progress and implementation of the non-profit, volunteer sector in Southeast Asia, and contribute to existing literature.
